Overview
The Reach Oxford Scholarship is a University of Oxford award for undergraduate students from countries on the OECD's official development assistance list. It supports applicants who hold an Oxford offer but cannot study for a degree at home because of political or financial barriers, or because suitable teaching does not exist there. Oxford funds around 2-3 awards a year across all eligible nationalities, so competition is very high.
Pakistan appears on the eligible nationality list. For 2027 entry, the UCAS course application closed on 15 October 2026, which means only candidates who applied to Oxford by that date can continue. Offer decisions arrive on 12 January 2027, and offer holders can then submit a scholarship application by 26 January 2027. Selection takes place in April 2027, with outcomes by the end of May 2027. The award covers course fees, a living-costs grant and one return flight each year for 3 or 4 years, depending on the course.
Benefits
Course fees for the full length of the degree (the fee value is not published on the scholarship page and depends on the course)
A grant for living costs (amount not published; verify in January 2027)
One return air fare per year
Duration of 3 or 4 years, depending on course length
Continuation in later years is subject to satisfactory academic progress
Transfer to a participating college if the college that made the offer does not take part in the scheme
Total value: not calculable from published figures
Eligibility
Basic requirements
Hold the nationality of a country on Oxford's eligible list, which follows the OECD's official development assistance recipients. Pakistan is on the list.
Hold an offer of a place on an Oxford undergraduate course. Oxford does not consider scholarship applications from students without an offer.
Intend to return to your country after your studies.
Academic requirements
Meet the entry requirements of your chosen course. Oxford describes the scheme as suitable only for candidates of the highest academic ability.
Pakistan note: Oxford lists the Pakistani Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC, covering FSc and Intermediate) as not accepted for the standard offer. Accepted routes include Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA international A-levels (read grade for grade like UK A-levels) and the International Baccalaureate (38 to 40 points depending on the course).
Any subject in Oxford's undergraduate course listing is eligible except Medicine.
Language requirements
All Oxford undergraduate courses require Oxford's higher level of English. For IELTS Academic that means at least 7.0 in each component. TOEFL iBT component minimums are 22 in Listening, 24 in Reading, 25 in Speaking and 24 in Writing.
Proof is due by 31 July in the year you receive the offer. Component scores must come from one test session.
A waiver can be requested through your college if you have studied full-time in English for the required recent period.
Verify the overall IELTS and TOEFL scores on ox.ac.uk/englang, since the overall figures were not captured in this research pass.
Selection criteria
Oxford names academic ability, financial need, social commitment and lack of ability to study for a degree at home as major factors. Priority goes to students who have not studied at undergraduate level before.
Ineligibility conditions
Applicants without an Oxford offer
Medicine applicants
Students from countries not on the eligible list
Anyone applying a second time: Oxford can consider an undergraduate scholarship application only once per student
Pakistan-specific notes
Oxford does not accept transfer students, so a student already at a Pakistani university would start year one again.
Not all colleges offer Reach Oxford scholarships each year. An offer from a non-participating college does not block an application.
Required documents
At application submission (UCAS course application, closed on 15 October 2026)
UCAS form with qualifications and scores self-reported in the education section
Academic reference that includes predicted grades
Personal statement
Admissions test registration or written work where the course requires them
No transcripts or certificates at this stage
For the scholarship application (January 2027)
Scholarship registration form and application form, as in the 2026 cycle (confirm the 2027 format on Oxford's page)
Information about your household circumstances, as the 2026 form included a household section
Oxford has not yet published the 2027 guidance notes. Verify manually in January 2027.
If shortlisted for interview (December 2026)
Written work sent to your college by 10 November 2026, where the course requires it
A device, stable connection and quiet room for an online interview
Before starting studies
Certificates and transcripts, requested only if you hold an offer
English language proof by 31 July 2027, or an approved waiver
Student visa documents, including the CAS issued by the University
Pakistan note: Oxford's published guidance does not mention HEC attestation. Confirm with your college once you hold an offer.
Application process
Check that your nationality is on Oxford's eligible list. Pakistan is included.
Check that your school qualification is accepted. HSSC alone is not, so confirm that you hold or are predicted A-levels or the IB at your course's required grades.
Submit the UCAS application to Oxford by 6pm UK time on 15 October 2026 (10pm in Pakistan). This step has closed for 2027 entry. For later cycles, Oxford's deadline has been mid-October each year, but verify when announced.
Sit the admissions test in October 2026 if your course requires one.
Send written work to your college by 10 November 2026 if the course requires it.
Attend your online interview in early to mid-December 2026 if you are shortlisted.
Check your UCAS decision on 12 January 2027.
Read Oxford's Reach Oxford page in January 2027 for the 2027 guidance notes and forms, and check the opening date and deadline hour.
Prepare every answer in a separate document first. The 2026 guidance says the form cannot be saved once you start.
Submit the scholarship application by 26 January 2027 (12 noon UK time in 2026 terms, 5:00 pm in Pakistan). Apply in the correct year, because Oxford considers only one undergraduate scholarship application per student, and deferred-entry holders apply in January of the year they start.
Wait for selection in April 2027 and for the outcome by the end of May 2027.
Meet your offer conditions, show English proof by 31 July 2027, and begin the student visa process.
Additional info
Oxford awards around 2-3 Reach Oxford scholarships a year across all eligible countries. It does not publish how many go to Pakistani students. Verify manually.
Oxford interviews for 2027 entry are online, so there is no interview location in Pakistan.
Oxford publishes no weighting of selection criteria.
Scholars write an annual report on their academic and social activities.
Oxford has no extra funding for offer holders who are not selected.

Tab 6: FAQs
1. When is the Reach Oxford deadline for 2027 entry from Pakistan?
Scholarship applications for 2027 entry close on 26 January 2027. In the 2026 cycle Oxford set the cut-off at 12 noon UK time. If the same hour applies, that is 5:00 pm in Pakistan, because the UK is on GMT in January. Oxford will publish the form and instructions in January 2027, so confirm the hour then. Selection takes place in April 2027 and outcomes arrive by the end of May 2027. The earlier course deadline, set through UCAS, was 6pm UK time on 15 October 2026.
2. Can I still apply if I missed the 15 October 2026 course deadline?
Not for 2027 entry. Oxford considers scholarship applications only from students who hold an offer, and offers come from the UCAS round that closed on 15 October 2026. The next opportunity is 2028 entry, and Oxford has not announced its dates. Oxford's course deadline has fallen in mid-October in recent years, so plan for October 2027 and verify when the University publishes it. Use the time to secure accepted qualifications and a strong English score.
3. Does Oxford accept FSc or Intermediate results from Pakistan?
Oxford lists the Pakistani HSSC, which covers FSc and Intermediate, as not accepted for a standard undergraduate offer. Pakistani applicants generally need Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or OxfordAQA international A-levels, which Oxford reads grade for grade like UK A-levels, or the International Baccalaureate with 38 to 40 points depending on the course. Offers range from AAA to AAA in A-level terms. Oxford advises taking an accepted qualification rather than qualifying through a first year at another university.
4. Does Oxford require IELTS or TOEFL from Pakistani applicants?
Yes, unless a waiver applies. Every Oxford undergraduate course now requires the higher English level: at least 7.0 in each IELTS Academic component, or TOEFL iBT minimums of 22 in Listening, 24 in Reading, 25 in Speaking and 24 in Writing. You do not need results when you apply, but proof is due by 31 July in the year you receive an offer, and all components must come from one sitting. Students educated in English for the required recent period can ask their college for a waiver. Check overall score minimums on ox.ac.uk/englang.
5. How much money will I actually receive?
Oxford states that the award covers course fees, a grant for living costs and one return air fare per year, for 3 or 4 years depending on the course. The scholarship page does not publish a pound figure for the living grant or the fee value. Do not rely on amounts quoted by third-party sites. Continuation in later years depends on satisfactory academic progress, and scholars write an annual report. Verify the current living-grant figure when Oxford publishes the 2027 guidance in January 2027.
6. Can I bring my spouse or family?
Oxford's published terms cover the scholar only: course fees, a living-costs grant and one return air fare per year. The page does not mention funding for a spouse or dependants. Ask your college before accepting an offer, and read the University's student immigration guidance for the visa rules that affect family members. Do not assume extra support exists.
7. Can I apply if I have already studied at university?
You can apply, but the scheme gives priority to students who have not studied at undergraduate level before. Oxford does not accept transfer students, so you would start the degree from year one. If you are enrolled at a university abroad and want to restart at Oxford, Oxford asks you to explain clearly why you are leaving your current course. Oxford also considers only one undergraduate scholarship application per student.
8. Where is the interview held in Pakistan?
There is no in-person interview location in Pakistan for the Oxford course interview. Interviews for 2027 entry are online and take place in early to mid-December 2026. You need a stable connection and a quiet space, and you should convert the time to Pakistan time, which is 5 hours ahead of the UK in winter. Oxford has not said whether the scholarship selection stage includes a separate interview, so check the January 2027 guidance.
Oxford admits around 3,200 undergraduates each year from more than 23,000 applicants. The Reach Oxford Scholarship adds a second filter on top: the University funds roughly 2-3 awards a year, shared across every eligible country. Pakistan is on that country list, and the odds explain why a casual approach rarely works.
This guide is for Pakistani students who want to understand the whole route, from the qualification Oxford expects to the interview, the scholarship form and the mistakes that end applications early. One timing point needs saying plainly. The course application for 2027 entry closed at 6pm UK time on 15 October 2026. Only students who submitted to Oxford through UCAS before that cut-off can still reach the scholarship stage. If that is you, the dates below apply directly. If it is not, treat the guide as preparation for 2028 entry, whose dates Oxford has not yet published.
Facts such as funding, countries and the full timeline sit on the Reach Oxford Scholarship 2027 listing. This post covers what the listing cannot: how to approach each stage from a Pakistani school system.
Before you start: eligibility reality check
Most Pakistani applications that stall do so on rules that are easy to check. Work through these before you write a single essay.
Your school qualification must be one Oxford accepts. Oxford lists the Pakistani Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC), which sits behind FSc and Intermediate results, as not accepted for a standard undergraduate offer. The practical routes are international A-levels from Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel or OxfordAQA, which Oxford treats as equal to UK A-levels grade for grade, or the International Baccalaureate. Offers run from AAA to AAA in A-level terms, or 38 to 40 IB points, depending on the course. If HSSC is all you hold, Oxford's own advice is to take an accepted qualification rather than try to qualify through a first year at another university.
You need an offer first. The scholarship has no separate entry route. Oxford does not look at scholarship applications from anyone who has not been offered a place.
Your nationality must be on the list. Pakistan appears on Oxford's list of eligible nationalities, which follows the OECD's official development assistance recipients.
Medicine is excluded. Every other course in the undergraduate listing is open.
First-time undergraduates get priority. Oxford does not take transfer students, so someone already studying at a Pakistani university would restart in year one and would sit lower in the priority order.
Need and return plans count. Oxford names academic ability, financial need, social commitment and an inability to study the degree at home among its main selection criteria. It also expects scholars to go back to their home country after graduating. Prepare honest evidence for each.
English must reach the higher level. Every Oxford undergraduate course now requires it: at least 7.0 in each IELTS Academic component, shown by 31 July of the year you receive the offer. Students who have studied entirely in English for the most recent years of school may qualify for a waiver through their college.
I could not find an official eligibility quiz for this scheme, so the course page for your subject and Oxford's international qualifications page are the closest checks available.
The 2027 application timeline
These are the dates Oxford has published for 2027 entry, with Pakistan time added where it helps. The UK moves to GMT on 25 October 2026, which puts it five hours behind Pakistan (UTC+5).
15 October 2026, 6pm UK time: UCAS course deadline, which was 10pm in Pakistan because the UK was still on summer time. Already passed.
October 2026: admissions tests with UAT-UK for courses that need one.
10 November 2026: written work due at your college, for courses that ask for it.
From the end of November 2026: shortlisting for interviews.
Early to mid-December 2026: online interviews. A 2pm slot in Oxford is 7pm in Pakistan.
12 January 2027: offer decisions arrive through UCAS.
January 2027: Oxford publishes the scholarship guidance and form.
26 January 2027: scholarship deadline. The 2026 cycle closed at 12 noon UK time, which would be 5:00 pm in Pakistan. Confirm the hour when Oxford publishes the 2027 form.
April 2027: selection.
By the end of May 2027: outcomes.
31 July 2027: English language proof due.
The UCAS cut-off is described by Oxford as strict, and the scholarship deadline should be treated the same way. The April and May dates are windows rather than appointments, so do not schedule travel or visa payments around them.
Getting the offer: qualifications, tests and written work
Because the scholarship follows the offer, almost all of your effort until January goes into the Oxford application itself.
Pick the course on evidence. Oxford interviews are academic conversations about your subject, so choose the course where you already read, practise or build things outside school. Check the required subjects on the course page first. Science courses in particular name specific A-level or IB subjects, and a mismatch cannot be repaired after exams.
Line up a referee who can predict grades. Oxford stresses that the reference must include predicted grades for exams you have not yet sat. Many Pakistani schools write references for local boards, so ask early whether your teacher can give Cambridge or Edexcel predictions, and share the course's grade requirement with them.
Report your qualifications yourself. Oxford asks you not to send transcripts or certificates with the application. List qualifications and scores in the education section of UCAS. Documents are requested only if you receive an offer.
Check whether you need a test. Oxford now uses admissions tests owned by UAT-UK, taken in October, and some courses use UCAT or LNAT instead. Candidates could create test accounts from 1 June 2026. Look at the test provider's centre list for your city before the booking window opens, not after.
Prepare written work if the course asks for it. Where required, it goes to your college by 10 November with a cover sheet.
Do not choose a college for the scholarship. Not every college funds Reach Oxford scholars each year, but Oxford states that an offer from a non-participating college does not stop you applying or winning. A successful candidate would be moved to a participating college. Choose the college that suits your course, or leave the choice open.
Book IELTS early. The English proof is due on 31 July, all four component scores must come from the same sitting, and test dates fill up. Booking by spring leaves room for a retake.
The interview and the scholarship selection
Oxford interviews are conversations about your subject, closer to a short tutorial than a question-and-answer session, and the aim is to see how you think through unfamiliar material. For 2027 entry they are online and held in early to mid-December 2026, so no Pakistani candidate needs to travel to Islamabad or anywhere else.
Preparation that tends to matter is simple. Read beyond your syllabus and be ready to explain why a particular book or problem held your attention. Practise thinking aloud with a teacher or senior who will interrupt and push back. Test your setup: check the interview time against Pakistan time, keep mobile data as a backup connection, and find a quiet room.
The scholarship is a separate stage that opens only after offers are issued on 12 January 2027. Oxford says it will publish instructions on the Reach Oxford page in January 2027, so the questions for this cycle are not yet visible. The 2026 guidance gives a reliable preview of the shape: a short registration form that checks eligibility, then a longer application form sent to eligible candidates, with a section on household circumstances. The form cannot be saved midway once you begin, so write and proofread every answer in a separate document and paste it in. The window between 12 and 26 January 2027 is only 14 days, so gather your household and financial information before it opens.
Keep Oxford's four selection factors in front of you while you write: academic ability, financial need, social commitment and lack of opportunity to study the degree at home. Answer each with specifics. Describe what you have done for other people rather than listing titles, explain why this degree cannot realistically happen in Pakistan, and say what you plan to do after you return.
Selection happens in April 2027, with outcomes by the end of May, so the wait is long. Oxford adds that it has no extra funding for candidates it cannot fund, so line up a back-up plan before the result.
Common mistakes that sink Pakistani applications
Relying on HSSC alone. Oxford does not accept it for the standard offer, so an application built on FSc results cannot meet the conditions of an offer.
Treating 15 October as flexible. Oxford's course deadline is earlier than at most UK universities, and Oxford calls it strict. Submitting in January, as many students do elsewhere, is too late.
Trusting aggregator dates. Several third-party pages still show 4 February 2027, which is the 2026 pattern carried forward. Oxford's page says 26 January 2027.
Leaving IELTS until June. Component scores must come from one sitting and the proof is due on 31 July. A poor result in late July leaves no time to retake.
Writing the scholarship answers in one rushed sitting. The form cannot be saved midway, so a long answer lost to a connection drop will not be there to restore.
Using vague financial and return statements. Oxford weighs financial need and intent to return, so general phrases about hardship or giving back do little.
Assuming a second chance. Oxford considers an undergraduate scholarship application once per student, and deferred-entry holders must apply in January of the year they start. Applying in the wrong year can use up the only attempt.
What if you don't get the Reach Oxford Scholarship
Oxford has no additional funding for offer holders who are not selected, so a parallel plan matters. Each option below needs checking against its own official source before you rely on it.
Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarship. Oxford's 2026 guidance lists it on the same scholarship form as Reach Oxford, so one form can cover both if you meet each scheme's criteria.
Oxford's fees, funding and scholarship search. The University's search tool shows other undergraduate awards. Check each award's nationality rules.
Government-funded undergraduate scholarships in other countries. Türkiye Burslari, Hungary's Stipendium Hungaricum and the Global Korea Scholarship have historically accepted undergraduates. Confirm Pakistan's status and the current cycle on each official site.
Undergraduate awards at other UK universities. Many run their own international scholarships with deadlines that are often later than Oxford's.
[Editor note: items 1, 3 and 4 need their own listings created and verified on scholarshipledger.com before this section is published. Link each one once the listing exists.]
Next steps
If you applied through UCAS by 15 October 2026, put 12 January 2027 and 26 January 2027 in your calendar today. Read the official Reach Oxford page the day your decision arrives.
Start gathering household and financial information now, so the January form takes hours rather than days.
Book an IELTS Academic date well before 31 July 2027, or check whether you qualify for the English waiver.
If you missed the October deadline, plan for 2028 entry. Confirm your A-level or IB route, and open the Reach Oxford Scholarship 2027 listing to see how a full cycle runs.
Subscribe to deadline alerts on scholarshipledger.com to receive Oxford's 2028 dates as soon as they are announced.
